In 1947 the Cavehill neighbourhood was a rapidly growing area with the prospect of further housing development as far as the foothills of the Cavehill itself.  The Rev.J.B. Jameson, Superintendent Minister of the Carlisle, Duncairn and Jennymount Circuit viewed this scene with concern but also as an exciting challenge.

"There is a great need for a place of worship in the neighbourhood.   A great need for something to be done for the children in the district."

As a result of these words, Cavehill Methodist Church came into being and was officially opened in September 1947.  The premises, affectionately known as "THE WEE HALL," (formerly Cavehill Preparatory School)  were meant to be temporary but in fact were used until 25th April 1957 when the Opening and Dedication of the present building took place.

Since then Cavehill Methodist Church has witnessed many changes in the district as well as changes in the hearts and minds of the people living in the district.  However the words that the Rev. J.B.Jameson spoke to the Carlisle Memorial Church Leaders 57 years ago still rings true.  There is still a need for a place of worship on the Cavehill Road and most certainly there is perhaps an even greater need for work amongst the children and young people in the district.

We pray that we, in Cavehill continue to face the future with the steadfast assurance and the dedicated vision of those Leaders in 1947.  We reach out to the community with a constantly renewed purpose, a hand of friendship and fellowship to ALL our neighbours and a confident trust in God's divine grace.
